love this article but I have to say this is the first thing I was taught in my teacher training with Dru Yoga,the importance of engaging the core muscles but have to say I love and will use the image “ZIP UP ” .Fantastic site especially for new teachers like myself .
Hi Liz! So glad to hear that core engagement is an essential part of your teaching! I also find that “zip it up” is much faster to say than “progressively contract your abdomen from the pubic bone toward the navel” 🙂 Both have their place, but sometimes we need to be precise and quick!
I love this cue. I have been hearing it for a very long time with one of my teachers and it is so true that it translates in a very unique and effective way. LOVE IT so much that I’ve been using it in my own teaching for a while now.
