2018 has been a whirlwind for me, both personally and professionally. In the spring my family and I sold our place in Michigan, and in the summer we packed all our stuff and moved back to Portland, OR. We were homeless for a month, traveling and staying with friends and in Airbnbs. We ended up sleeping on the floor in our Portland house for couple of weeks when our furniture didn’t arrive on time. Our Portland house also needed new paint, new floors and some resemblance of landscaping. Meanwhile I was also writing my blog posts, taking care of my Sequence Wiz members and moving into my new office space (which also needed new paint, floors, furniture, etc.) And during all that I also had to make sure that our 7-year old son was not completely neglected.

Days were busy and sometimes hectic, but even in the middle of chaos I kept feeling profoundly happy. Moving back to Portland felt like coming home – this is where the heart is. Reconnecting with old friends, neighbors and yoga buddies fills my heart with joy, because I know that this is where I belong. There is nothing like moving away for 5 years to make you appreciate all the connections to people and places that you took for granted.

My home yoga practice has been sporadic, as well. After disappearing for days it would pop up to help me deal with neck tension or to supercharge me for the challenge ahead. For a while it was rather utilitarian, helping me to deal with specific issues that showed up. But once I took time to really dive deep into it, it flooded my heart with gratitude and my mind with creative ideas for my life and business. Every time I came back to my mat I was reminded why I choose to do this work – I kept feeling: “Wow, I needed this, I remember why I love it.”

Once again I am reminded that our environment, community and mindset have a profound effect on how we feel. And I finally feel settled, grounded and ready to help others. My yoga studio space is now officially open for business! So if you need my help with a recurring health issue, or to set a new direction for your home yoga practice, or to figure out where you are in life and where you want to go, you can always schedule a private yoga session with me, either online or in person. The video below shows you how those sessions work. You can also win a free private yoga session if you fill out a quick questionnaire under the video to help me better understand what kind of blog topics resonate best with you. We will conduct a drawing on January 15 and announce the winner on January 16. I hope that we get to connect one way or the other. I am really excited about 2019 and what it will bring, and I hope that you are, too!

Thank you Joy! We all do this the same way – one foot in front of the other, right? 🙂 It does feel good to get past the most overwhelming parts. Happy New Year!

Sounds a lot like my return to the Boston area a few years ago! Glad to hear you’re settled and happy. 🙂
I’d love to complete your survey but it doesn’t seem to be appearing for me. Best wishes, Kali

I was a little bit bummed out to discover that you lived in and just left Michigan, as I have always assumed that you were working out of Portland (why did I think that?) I have told numerous yoga students of mine, in recommending your website and blog, that “Olga would be my yoga guru if she lived near me!” I live in Ohio – had I known, I might have made the trip at least once! Again and again – thanks for your great work, Olga. You inspire me frequently throughout the year.

Congratulations on your move Olga and on opening your new studio. We also relocated last summer and I can understand what you’ve been through!
Thank you for managing to post so many interesting articles through such a busy time.
I also experienced a lapse in my regular home practice when we moved but 5 minutes here and there kept me going. It was a good experience to be away from my mat and to have to improvise.
My very best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy 2019.
