Feel the earth: Happy ankles practice
2Our feet and ankles don’t get a lot of love and attention, even though we rely on them every day to keep us stable enough to support and move the weight of the entire body, and flexible enough to navigate uneven surfaces and stairs. The balance between sthiram (stability) and sukham (ease) is especially important for our ankles, since veering too far to the either end of the spectrum will affect our ability to walk easily and safely.
Another curious thing that you might forget is that tightness in the calves and ankles affects the entire Superficial Back Line of the body, which means that the facial relationship between the front and back can be pulled out of balance.
These are exactly the kinds of things that this short yoga practice for ankles aims to correct. In this practice you will focus your attention on stretching and strengthening your ankles, but at the end of the practice, please take note whether or not it affects your entire structural organization. Notice how your neck, upper and lower back feel as a result. And please let me know!
